Dry Mouth, Thrush?

One of the symptoms I experienced was a dry mouth lacking in saliva. My mouth felt kind of sticky and burning. Was this thrush? Or is thrush mainly a bunch of white stuff that resembles cottage cheese on the tongue? Could this have been an oral yeast infection? Also, I had to urinate frequently for a few days (tested negative for diabetes). Was this the dehydration that some people who experienced ARS reported?

Ok Tyger,

For the last time. Dry mouth is not a symptom of HIV. Frequent urination is not a symptom of HIV.

While thrush can be a symptom of Advance HIV disease, it is not something that would show up for years.

Once again, I reiterate the word 'acute' means rapid and sudden onset. All symptoms come at the same time and go within a week or so. Normally 2-4 weeks after exposure.

If you are having long drawn out or 'chronic' health problems or these symptoms are popping up at different times it is more than likely due to stress not HIV.

Please try to relax while you are waiting to test otherwise you will only drive yourself nuts. Everytime you experience a symptom, I would suggest you try and look at other causes for it, instead of assuming it's ARS.

If had thrush, you would know it. It is not a dry mouth. Candidiasis in the mouth are white patches that look like cottage cheese or SEVERE red spots. It is usually accompanied by nausea, a sore throat with severe pain when swallowing. And it happens to those whose immune system is already compromised by HIV, usually not during ARS.

As for the dehydration, you are obviously under a severe amount of stress....how has your diet been lately? Enough water intake?

The best advice anyone can give is to see your Doc and have a complete physical.

Don't worry. I had the exact same thing and I've tested negative out to 12 months (my choice -- nothing whatsoever to do with the window period, so don't start that please). I also had some really sticky, gummed up saliva that would collect between my cheeks and gums. Really weird.

Anyway, my guess was that it caused by the extreme stress and anxiety I was experiencing since it cleared up after a while (took a few months though...)
