Waiting...but stressed
      #11748 - 11/01/00 08:21 PM

Thanx guys so much for the feedback. It has been very useful and now I am starting to feel much better. I am not so depressed any more but rather more like stressed.

One of the things that has struck me since I have started to read about HIV is the amount of contradictory information about treatment. Should you or should you not start with the medication as soon as it is diagnosed? Some say its your best chance of staying alive and well. Others say taking the drugs too soon can potentially make you resistant to them and therefore minimise the effect when you might mostly need them. And on top of that the side effects and the toxicity of use in the long term can be very harmful too.

Its all very confusing. How close are we to a cure, or to be able to control the process of HIV-AIDS? Where is the top reseach taking place and who are the top specialist at the momment?

What is the most common sympotm of all during the Accute phase? Some say only 50% show symptoms, or recall being ill. Others say it's 2 out of 3. Why?

What are the chances of infection when there is vaginal intercourse and it's the male who is HIV (and ejaculates inside unprotected)?

Does anybody have any figures on Indonesia?

Thanx again and congratulations for this magnificent site, your support, your vision and care.

A couple of the reasons there is so much contradictory information, is because there is still some much to learn about this and because while the basic disease is the same, it affects people differently.

While you are waiting I would suggest you quit reading so much about it. You will only drive yourself nuts.

Indonesia appears to be very low in infected people. However, it is a developing country and statistics cannot be supported. Hence, there are no real figures for Indonesia. I suspect it is not as bad as Cambodia or Thailand. If you go back a couple of months, a couple of us had risky contacts in Indonesia as well. But happily, both J and myself tested negative after 6 months. Follow everyone's advice. Test at 12 weeks.

There is NO answer for you because you probably will not accept any explaination. Relax, I know is not easy, wait for 12 weeks and take your negative test result. Don't surf any more information because you don't know which one is good or bad. I did the same for last 6 months and eventually is the same. Only test at 3 months can calm you down and sure. Easy man.

Very Sensitive... new
      #11771 - 11/02/00 07:27 AM

Guys, thank you again - OK, I'll try to stop reading. The reason why I am EXTREMELY sensitive to the issue is because my mother was HIV+.

As you will surely understand the sole possibility that I am have been infected is driving me nuts. My girlfriend is being amazingly supportive and somewhere deep down inside I know I will be OK. I try to think positive and I am much more in control now than a few days ago.

The facts are the facts and although I had only ONE possible but unlikely exposure, (unprotected vaginal - with a "normal" girl in Indonesia), AND test during week 4 showed negative, I know I will only be sure at 12 week. I understand this and will try to accept this and get on with my life.

The big issue that is troubling me is that I had a rash on my penis two weeks ago diagnosed as fungal infection, it was week 3. No other noticble sympotms. A specialist said it is not a of HIV. Others say all the symptoms come together. But still...i am unsure...any light?

Thank you again...

Fungal attack is quite common. No one can tell you what is hiv symptoms. Just don't stress out and stop matching the symptoms. Stop surfing and listen to all those nonsense from other people. 12 weeks test will confirm it. It is a golden standard. Meanwhile, don't even think about it and just mark a date in your schedule. It is not complicated, 12 weeks is the mark and that is all about. I think your doctor will say the same. Good luck to you.
