I am a very stressed man who recieved a calll from my ex-girlfriend I dated from mid oct 98- mid dec 98. She called me to tell me she tested positive. I was tested on Nov 29th 98 and was negative. She informed me on January 12th 99. I had a bad cold ain early dec and again in early january and now my body is stessing out waiting for the results of another HIV Antibody test and a PCR test. I have no swollen glands or fever and no sore throat, just body weakness and stomach cramps, and extreme stress. I should have the new test results in about 10 days...Please pray for me and any advice is appreciated.

First of all, don't panic. I know it's a hard thing to do, because I'm going through the same, but just try to keep your head cool. On the positive side, you have just learned about your possibility of infection, so that means you didn't had to go through the tormentous 3 months or so that some people do. Remember that though HIV infection occurs both female to male and male to female, female to male infection has a lower probability. Keep the faith, even though you tested before the 3 month period, I assume that your first test was past the first 25 days after your first sexual contact with her, so that means that even if the accuracy of the test is not the same as with a 3/6 month, it counts, it's valid. There are changes in life, maybe you are not infected, but maybe you are. Same goes with me, maybe I'm infected, maybe not. But that doesn't means your life will end. We are all going to die, sooner or later, maybe HIV patients do have an advantage over non HIV infected people, they know they got a limited lifespan, so they can do more in that time, they can live more than other people. Socrates used to say that being old is not the same as live long... worry about living, not about being a long-lasting human being. This HIV situation has affected my life so much, I'm only 17 years old. I'm gonna get tested this next Thursday or Friday, on the 46th/47th day after my encounter, by doctor's order. Anyway, it's not about dying, it's about dying with your boots on, lace up and fight pal, that's what living is about. Wish you the best of luck pal, God Bless You.

Man I'm VERY happy for you. I must say that God has played a key role in my experience, he's the only one I can trust... I want to share something with everyone here, and I'll do it in the main room so that more people read it (so go there and read it mike!). I wish that everything now comes not just back to normal, but BETTER than normal. As I see it, if I turn out negative, this is a wake up call from God. Maybe we were sent here to do something, and we ain't, so we should just "stand up". BTW... got tested last Friday. I should get the test this Friday; but I think it's only an ELISA. I want to be checked with a PCR, just in case. Was it expensive? ANyway, don't waste more time, start LIVING.
Good luck pal 17scared

I dont yet know how much the PCR costs, I had insurance so they submitted it thru them. I was told the test costs approx $500. I am going to get retested again in about 6 weeks. Please let me know how you make out!

I got a neg test at 47 days, wich isn't a conclusive test, but it's more than 50% accurate. I'm going to get tested in about a week and a half (90 days)... I'm almost sure I'm neg, so please pray it is still that way. Thanks for your support and stay in touch. Scared17

According to "The Guide to Living With HIV Infection" from Johns Hopkins University, studies have shown that transmission during intercourse is about twenty times more likely from man to woman than from woman to man. And the estimated risk of transmission from a single episode of unprotected vaginal intercourse is one in 500. This isn't license to go out and have lots of wild unsafe sex, but it shows how difficult transmission can be. Given that you haven't had standard ARS symptoms, your chances seem pretty good. (But get tested anyway.)

Well since these posts are over 9 years old and these posters drifted off without saying they tested postive, it's safe to assume they tested negative and did the mentally healthy thing, trusted their results and went merrily on their way.
