Just a general question here, hope someone can help. If a person were to have a history of STDs, yet used a condom during sex, are they at risk for contracting HIV? Thanks any any replies.

If you had a history of STDs but none of them being HIV, and you used a condom everytime, as far as I'm concerned you shouldn't be at risk of having contracted HIV.
Did you contract these STD's whilst using a condom?!
Take care,

YES,They might be and are reccomended to test for hiv. while condoms offer great protection and there are several std's that occur from skin to skin contact ie:herpes, syphillis, and hpv to name a few then there are highly infectious fluids with some such as gonorea and chlamydia that can survive on the skin such as hands etc for several hours and if they contact mucousal membranes can cause infection.that said having an std can also indicate improper use of the condom or slippage or breakage. so get tested it's the only way to protect yourself.

were they treated and cured for the std's? otherwise they are at a much greater risk of getting hiv if they are exposed to it if the condom didn't completely cover any sores etc

Thanks for your replies and help. I actually don't know whether I have STDs or not because i don't have any open sores, but i realize that many are asymptomatic until later stages. I fear I may have contracted an STD from one unprotected encounter but didn't realize it, then went on to have protected sex with a few more people. Initially I was fearing for the first encounter, now I fear that I didn't contract HIV the first time, but becuase I unknowingly contracted an STD, that even though it was protected I was still at high risk for HIV.
