Female to male Transmission
      #11555 - 10/29/00 07:20 AM

For those of you, like me, who worry about the chances of female to male transmission, and who wonder how so many hetero men seem to get infected from women...

For a man to get infected from a woman ( unprotected),it happens most likely when there is a CO-FACTOR of another STD that has created an open sore ( Herpes, etc..).
I am NOT saying it is not possible w/out a cofactor and this is NOT a reason for people to have unprotected sex..just some thoughts.

It seems to me, that if other STD's are far more prevalent in society ( herpes is 1 in 6, and an incubation of a few days to a few weeks), this should give additional perspective.

Yup!

Also people, keep in mind that female to male transmission is statiscally low. Not impossible, but very difficult. Other STD's are far easier to catch. I think the odds are like 1 in 100,000 for unprotected sex with an INFECTED female. And this is factoring in multiple exposures, ie. frequent unprotected sex with the infected female.

I guess what I worry and obsess about is...I have been with enough women in my life, but most of them once and always with a condom..never a breakage, slippage, etc..and a number of these women have been " professionals". I did enjoy Ryan Kulls thoughts on that..basically no difference as long as you " cover up".

So..What I struggle to keep in mind, are the chances of getting it from ONE exposure WITH a condom and NO failure, NOT the background of the person with whom I have had sex.

Now, before someone jumps on me, I am NOT advocating careless and wanton sex, protected or unprotected. I have always struggled with very low self esteem and rejection by the female race as a whole. I turned to high priced escorts to alleviate my deep pain..which has only caused me another type of deeper pain and obsession.

So, guys, get good therapy ( I am) and save your $$$ for a new suit , car or a trip. Or, God willing finding a lady who will ruly love and cherish you..I hope that I find that. I am in so much pain now..and the worry that I have HIV permeates every thought, but I am scared to take the test.

Oh well....

Thanks for letting me spill. If there are any men or women who would like to connect with me in this issue, and really talk, I will be happy to give you my email in some safe fashion.

Ahh...dude. I know your concern. But let's put it this way. If the chances of infection WITHOUT protection AND with an infected partner is statistically low, imagine the what the stats are when USING protection!

You've got no worries! If you're using protection you're pretty much in the clear!

I had a brief encounter 6 years ago with a female friend. It lasted no more than a minute or two and I was not wearing protection. I had NO reason to believe she had anything and she reassured me that she was clean...but you know when the gears in the noggin start turning, all hell breaks loose! Even to this day, the fear of infection pops up, but I've done well in stomping on it. I guess I'm one of those "worried well" individuals. I read about a symptom, BAM, I think I have it. Sigh.

Next time, we should all use protection and choose our partners wisely! We should be more concerned with other STD's like herpes. That's a nasty bug and it's HIGHLY contagious!

Take it easy guys and gals!
