repeated boats with bacterial vaginosis
      #112862 - 10/18/04 12:28 PM

I have been lurking and reading the boards for almost 6 months now. I am trying to build the courage to test this week. I must! Possible exposure was in December 2003. Unprotected vaginal. Partner tested neg 8 months prior to and again negative one month after this contact. My fear is that he picked it up shortly before having sex with me and had not converted yet when he tested. My hope is that it is all in my head. That is what I've been holding on to the past 10 months.

Two questions PLEASE someone answer:

1. Is there a connection between recurring Bacterial Vaginosis and HIV?

I know it is not considered an STD (only because women get it without sexual contact) however, I first got it in November after having unprotected vaginal and it has been recurring ever since. Went to Dr. was treated and tested for gonnorhea and trich both negative.

2. Does HIV cause chronic recurring health problems the first year? I have been feeling seriously ILL since that exposure. Every possible symptom. I will not share all symptoms because it frightens people like myself ( I should know).

PLEASE someone help... Until I know my HIV statis I have become too frighted to go to my Dr. and get a full workup. I feel like I have full blown AIDS and I need to know what it is.

Thanks,

It sounds like your symptoms are stress/anxiety related. Please do yourself a favor and get tested. The odds are in your favor that you are negative. Home Access can have your results in 3 business days. I will be praying for you.

Thank you for replying. It helps, it REALLY does. Well, I know Bacterial Vaginosis is not on the symptoms list but recurring yeast infections is and when I search BV , BV comes up as one of the common reported gyne complaints of women with HIV. Any positive women out there who can respond, please do. Another complaint I have is shoulder and arm pain with occassional numbness and tingling. I've also noticed 2 bruises on my arms that seem to have appeared from nowhere. They cleared in a couple of days but, where did that come from? I know I said I wound't but I need to get some of it out. I am convinced that I have this, is it possible that these "later" type symptoms could be occurring in this 10 month period? I KNOW, you can't judge HIV by symptoms... but HELP please. I'm building up to my test this weekend.

It is not typical for someone who is hiv+ to have symptoms this early. This is why there are so many people that don't know that they have it. Usually, someone that is infected develops flu like symptoms 2-4 weeks after the exposure, however some people don't experience anything. After that they feel normal for several years. I told you before that I think the anxiety is causing your body to function differently. I have been there so I know it. I felt so much better once I got tested. I hope that you find some comfort with these words.
