testing for HIV Aids
      #111894 - 09/24/04 12:27 PM

m 21 yr old, i resently had an incident which exposed me to ghonorea. got treated n m very much ok but was so worried i could have contracted AIDS as well. have been tested n i tested Negative. but the tester said HIV Aids virus may not appear before 3 months after infeection. so have to wait for 3 months n do another test. that worries me badly n m so confussed.
now my question is: is that true that i can actually test Negative now as i tested then 3 months later test positive. are there such cases? if so pls advice me, m so traumatised..............!

What Ive heard is after the sex act you could test approx. 6 weeks and be 70 percent sure if you are negative but to wait 12 weeks and be 96 percent sure. God bless you I know what you are going through cause im going through the same thing Love Breathing

"I" believe it is true that you can test negative sometimes, if you immediately test after possible exposure. The reason why you should test again is it takes time for the virus to multiply enough to show up on a test. Imagine an ant in a sugar pile...at first you will not notice any difference in its consumption of the sugar but with time slowly you will begin to notice a dent in the sugar. This is probably a bad example...but I hope you get the jist.

Get blood tested at 3 months just to be sure and "try" your best not to worry or obsess about it. And it would probably be best to avoid HIV AIDS symptoms web sites. The mind is an incredible thing and you may find some symptom that you will be able to identify for yourself and run with the fear. Take the test, get info on PREVENTION, and try not to stress to much. We are here for you either way. Good Luck!!!
