PCR test?
      #104496 - 07/31/04 01:15 PM

Ok, I am freaking out. I have been too sick to ignore the symptoms as not being HIV related. I have this strange PN and also herpes simplex issues which I have never had in my life. Anyhow, with all the information out there regarding antibody testing and trying to wait out the six months is driving me crazy, would a PCR test at 18 weeks post exposure be more definitive than an ELISA? Thanks.

A pcr dna is the same test they use for people in the adult sex industry. They say because it looks for the DNA it is good after 2 weeks. They also take people out of quarentine when they test neg at 42 days.

A PCR test at around four weeks is going to be close to definitive. A lot of people are going to tell you it's not, but it is. ALthough the antibody is the Gold Standard, A one month negative PCR combined with a negative antibody test will practically insure that you're not infected. Please ... trust me on this.
