cmv retinitis

Does anyone know if you could have CMV retinitus for years without showing any other signs of HIV or AIDS?
I have read that it comes in the later stages, and I have had the symptoms for years but otherwise feel o.k

YES!!!!! You can have CMV and not have AIDS. My father was diagnosed with having CMV about 2 years ago. His doctor told him not to really worry about it since he was healthy otherwise..meaning that he didn't have AIDS.
