symptoms of HIV??
Okay, I was tested at 8 weeks and it came back negative. Right now I'm waiting to be tested again at 12 weeks. I've been reading, reading, reading all that I can about this disease, and it seems that maybe I'll be okay. But, I have swollen lymph glands in my throat. I know that this can sometimes be a symptom of HIV. Other than that, I'm not sick at all. I'm not fatigued, not headachy, my throat is fine, etc. I guess that's why I'm sort of worried that my lymph glands would be swollen-- why? I'm interested in anyone's experiences with "symptoms" of HIV, whether it's personal experience or something that's been learned from another source.... I am well aware that swollen lymph glands are not necessarily an indicator of HIV, but I'm just scared. Thanks

I am sorry that you are so scared - but you sound as if you are handling it in the right way. My own story probably won't be of much use to you as I tested positive when I was already quite ill so had plenty of symtoms that you almost certainly wouldn't have. But my (negative) partner has twice had every swollen lymph node sudden and loss of weight going, plus night sweats whilst waiting for his test results and they have, both times (12 years apart) come back negative. We put the symptoms down to nervousness and psycho-somatic stuff. So mild symptoms don't necessarily mean bad news. Good luck - I'll be thinking of you.

It's really useless and a terrible waste of your psychic energy to sit around speculating and worrying about symptoms you may or may not be having. Your glands could be swelling due to Spring allergies. The real way to find out if you are infected is to get tested. Then get tested 6 months later and then a year after that. And obviously, don't engage in any high risk behavior during this time or you will have to start all over again. Worrying about it won't make it true or untrue. It is not typical to have a glaring infection show up right away. It usually doesn't happen like that. Usually, you are infected, and then 8 to 10 years later you start getting sick. That is what happened to me. I started getting majorly sick and, not having engaged in any high risk behavior, I wasn't tested until my immune system was practically gone. There you go....but good luck to you anyway, I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. I hope your tests are negative.
