hey guys,
i have a friend (girl) who recently got her pap and it was abnormal. the dr said it was hpv and sent away for results to see if it was severe or non-severe. i'm trying to find information to help her out. i am under the impression that there are two types of hpv. ones that cause genital warts and ones that cause lesions on the cervix, etc... am i correct?

Well there are many strains of HPV that the doctors and researchers have identified. About 28 I believe. There are strains that cause warts and some that do not. A abnormal pap does not always mean HPV, but there is a possibility. She could have a yeast infection or some other sort of bacterial vaginal infection. If that is the case, the doctor will prescribe some antibiotics to kill the infection and will give another pap in a few weeks to see if that was the problem. Good luck and stay safe.-Jess
