hi folks, recently i travelled to indonesia and had a brief, unprotected, sexual encounter - vaginal - with one of the local girls - who was not a prostitute, or like profession. i, like most people who visit this website for advice have been consumed with the guilt and stupidity of the lack of protection. i will be taking a test at 3 months but was just wondering about any stats on risk associated with male to female unprotected vaginal sex. thanks to all

There is research that indicates that passing HIV from male to female is more likely than a female passing to a male. Now this still happens, but the male to female trasmission just happens more often. I am definitely going to tell you to have a test since you did put yourself at risk. If you can't wait the entire 3 months, you could have a 28 day PCR which is expensive or a 6 week test or 8 week ELISA which can be a good indication of what the 12 week result will be. Good luck and stay safe. -Jess

I suggest keeping positive and keeping a focus on never letting that happen again. Odds are in your favor but protection eliminates that guilt. get tested you'll feel better.
