Question about swollen nodes?
      #10124 - 09/27/00 01:10 AM

Where exactly do you guys feel swollen nodes in your bodies? By swollen, do you mean they can be seen or felt? I can never figure out where to feel for these. Appreciate your answers. THanks

First of all, dont feel for them. Poking at nodes only makes them rebel on you and swell up and get tender. Its kind of like if you bang your head on a wall, sooner or later you will get a headache.

If you go to a major search engine and type in "lymphatic system" or "lymph nodes", you will get a multitude of sites that will show you a diagram indicating the location of lymph nodes. While there are many lymphatic sites, the primary ones are in the soft tissue of your neck just below where your upper and lower jaw connect, in the back of the neck behind your earlobe, deep in your armpit (not midway down your side, deep in your armpit, and finally on both sides of your groin, kind of near the top of where your leg joins your torso.

My experience is when I get sick, I know my nodes are swollen just due to throbbing or discomfort in the general area where nodes are located. I can never really feel them. When I was going through my hiv scare, I poked all the time. I swore I found swollen nodes, but then the doctor would check and tell me "you dont have any swollen nodes". So dont obsess about it.

Hope this helps.
