Im in the philipines, I wanted to test for HIV because of some recent possible exposures. But my doctors are saying I should wait until 6 months before I take the test. But here people say 3 months is okay. Please, what should i do? Are the test machines different here in the Phillippines from those in other countries? Please, help, Im dying!

Hello Anonymous,
Testing at the 3 months mark is the gold-standard, also if the tests they use in your country should be from the (older) 2nd generation Elisa test.
Only if you would do only a HIV-test after 6 weeks already, it would be important to know what generation of HIV anitigen-tests they are using (some countries/US-states say 6 weeks is definitive with newer tests.)
You don't write what was your possible exposure. Feel free to ask our opinion on your possible risk.
Best regards, Dutchman
