Manager, Center for HIV Information
Position Description The UCSF Center for HIV Information (CHI) is a faculty-directed program of the Department of Medicine with a remarkably successful track record for developing key information resources on HIV/AIDS and disseminating them through cutting-edge information systems. CHI partners with government agencies, foundations, and international organizations to develop authoritative information of national and international interest on HIV care, prevention, and policy and to disseminate this information through innovative technologies including CD-ROMs and Internet sites incorporating state-of-the-art technology.
Over the past 2 years CHI has developed from a single Internet site to approximately 8 different projects with an overall annual budget of $1M and a staff of ten editorial and technical staff. CHI is a high-profile partner in several federal grants, including the AIDS Education and Training Centers National Resource Center (funded by HRSA), HIV and Hepatitis C Internet resources (funded by the VA system), the HIV Vaccine Pipeline Project (funded by the NIH-sponsored HIV Vaccine Trials Network), and several others. CHI's cornerstone project is HIV InSite (http://hivinsite.ucsf.edu), the largest academic Internet site on HIV/AIDS.
CHI is seeking a skillful manager to ensure continued excellence in an increasingly complex environment. Areas of responsibility include: coordination of development and financial planning, coordination of grant submission and reporting, supervision of staff and coordination of human resources; promotion and evaluation of CHI projects; and development and implementation of quality assurance standards.
Reporting to the CHI director, the CHI manager will have broad responsibility to ensure that individual CHI projects are appropriately funded and that staff effort is appropriately coordinated among projects to meet project goals efficiently and effectively. CHI staff are highly skilled and dedicated to the mission of the CHI. The ideal candidate will have broad management experience, including fundraising, human resources, and project management. Management experience in a growing organization is ideal; knowledge of publishing, Internet technology, and issues related to HIV/AIDS prevention and care would be helpful.
