Visual AIDS Director NYC

Founded in 1988, Visual AIDS is internationally recognized for its groundbreaking educational work promoting AIDS awareness through the visual arts. Since 1996, we have provided an increasing range of direct
services to artists living with HIV/AIDS. Services include: free photo-documentation of artwork; materials, presentations and emergency grants to low-income artists; access to lawyers for estate planning;
quarterly newsletters; exhibition and publishing opportunities; career training; advice and advocacy.

Responsibilities: Supervising a small team of staff and volunteers, the Executive Director is responsible for all artistic, managerial, legal and financial aspects of the organization. The Director ensures the fulfillment of Visual AIDS’ short and long-term goals, and is
responsible for policy and programming in partnership with the Board of Directors.
Fundraising: The Director is responsible for obtaining, managing and reporting on all annual and project grant applications to foundations, government agencies and corporations. Working closely with the Board,
the Director identifies potential sources of support and devises benefit events which suit the organizations’ mission. Organizational Management: The Director manages all aspects of the organization, including office management, supervision of financial procedures, fulfillment of legal and/or contractual obligations, and
supervision of all staff and volunteers.
Program Management: The Director is responsible for devising and overseeing all Visual AIDS artistic programs, including annual events for World AIDS Day, exhibitions, Visual AIDS domain internet web site and web site at thebody.com, publications, benefit events, postcards,
and the programs of the Archive Project.
Publicity and Promotion: The Director devises marketing strategies for Visual AIDS and its programs, and is responsible for overseeing all promotional materials produced. All media publicity/contact is managed
by the Executive Director.
Board Relations: The Director reports to the Board of Directors. He/she maintains healthy board relations, and attends all board meeting and sub-committee meetings, providing materials/reports as required.

Requirements: The candidate must have a strong artistic vision, strong fundraising skills and museum or non-profit, arts administration experience at a senior level. He/she must be an adept manager able to work diplomatically with people at all levels: board members, staff,
funders, artists living with HIV/AIDS, social workers/case managers. He/she will be a flexible and highly motivated team player who enjoys the challenge of working on multiple projects simultaneously on tight deadlines!
