HIV/AIDS Education at the Utama Foundation, Sumatr
      #28007 - 02/08/02 08:18 PM

Dear HIV/AIDS activists,

As the Recruitment Coordinator at VIA, I would like to inform you about some exciting opportunities for your students. VIA is a non-profit organization based at Stanford University that has been sending motivated undergraduates, graduating seniors, and college graduates from all over the US to Asia for almost four decades. Through our service learning programs, volunteers confront global issues through direct experience.

VIA has programs in China, Vietnam, Indonesia and Laos, including one-year, two-year, and six-week summer programs. Volunteers serve as instructors at universities and schools, or as consultants at local NGOs and research institutes. In particular, I think your colleagues or organization's volunteers will be interested in the position listed below.

HIV/AIDS Education at the Utama Foundation, Sumatra, Indonesia (2 year post)
Utama is primarily concerned with educating the public about HIV/AIDS prevention. They also run a small clinic and education center for sex workers with the goal of increasing their knowledge of disease prevention, nutrition, and alternative income generation enterprises. The volunteer is needed to help translate grant proposals, edit correspondence and proposals, teach staff English, to network with other NGOs who do similar work, and to participate in and help organize seminars and training workshops. A background or interest in public health and a background working at a nonprofit or in management consulting would be beneficial.

The application deadline for all of these programs is February 15, 2002. Applications and more information are available on our website at: http://www.viaprograms.org . I can also be contacted by e-mail at info@viaprograms.org or by phone at (650) 725-7433. If this seems interesting, please forward this email to your colleagues and volunteers.

Sincerely,

Ann Le
VIA Recruitment Coordinator
