Housing Works will hire a federal issues organizer to coordinate and carry out advocacy in Washington, D.C. with and on behalf of homeless New Yorkers living with AIDS and HIV. The federal issues organizer will:

carry out advocacy with executive and legislative agencies on a wide range of issues related to HIV/AIDS, homelessness, poverty, welfare, disability, drug use and mental health policies and funding;
work with the co-Executive Director on federal policy development and advocacy;
organize and mobilize Housing Works clients and other New Yorkers living with AIDS and HIV to carry out advocacy efforts in Washington and in legislators_ home districts;
collaborate with clients and advocacy staff to carry out public education and media advocacy on federal issues;
work with coalition partners in New York, Washington and around the country as appropriate;
work with clients and advocacy staff to organize effective direct action strategies, including protests, marches and civil disobedience.
Housing Works is the nation_s largest provider of housing, services and advocacy for homeless people living with AIDS and HIV, and is the nation_s largest minority-controlled AIDS service organization.

Candidates should have strong organizing and communication skills and proven commitment to the needs and interests of people living with AIDS and HIV. Salary based on experience. Candidates must be familiar with word-processing, e-mail and Internet programs.
