New York Harm Reduction Educators, Inc (NYHRE) is New York’s largest harm reduction/ syringe exchange program. Its mission is HIV prevention and comprehensive services for those at risk for, or infected with HIV. Legally constituted in 1992, we serve over 5,000 people each year in the Bronx and East Harlem using a unique street-side service delivery model. Mobile units and tents are set up where high-risk behaviors take place and services are delivered right on the streets. Services are also offered at two storefront offices, one in the Bronx and one in East Harlem. Position Summary: The Social Worker will provide mental health services to NYHRE’s clients under its programs targeting HIV+ individuals and substance users at highest risk for HIV. Responsibilities: •Provide HIV+ individuals and active substance users with mental health services (counseling and psychotherapy) which are low barrier, user-friendly, culturally relevant, and nonjudgmental. •Responsible for client outreach and recruitment. •Provide individual and group-level interventions. •Implement street-side service provision. •Maintain proper documentation, including audit worthy client files. •Make outside referrals to appropriate mental health services when necessary. •Participate in monthly clinical supervision. •Other duties as assigned. Experience/Additional qualifications: •Must have LMSW. 1-3 years experience preferred. •Should be an organized, self-motivated person, committed to working in a multi-cultural, multi-racial, harm reduction environment •Must know and believe in harm reduction philosophy. •Experience working with drug users and other disenfranchised populations utilizing a harm reduction modality. •Must be willing to work outdoors at our street sites from time to time, hours may vary. •Must be a team player able to work as part of a larger organization with multiple programs. •Knowledge of the Bronx and East Harlem IDU/ Substance Use communities and service providers desired. •Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
