Deputy Director
Treatment Action Group is an independent AIDS research and policy think tank fighting for better treatment, a vaccine, and a cure for AIDS. TAG is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1992 and based in New York City. Currently the budget is $2 million per year and TAG employs nine full-time staff, eight of them at TAG's New York office.

TAG is seeking to hire a Deputy Director. The Deputy Director will oversee the day-to-day operations at TAG including management of organizational, financial, development, human resource, and administrative operations. The Deputy Director will report directly to and work closely with the Executive Director.

Key Responsibilities:

Review internal organizational processes, initiate and implement improvements in organizational operations, and design new processes as needed.
Oversee internal systems and organizational operations.
Develop and facilitate effective communication within the team.
Manage human resource activities.
Manage financial information flows among the administrator, board, and executive director.
Oversee monthly financial reports for executive director and board.
Oversee routine grants administration, filing, and reports for grant donors.
Oversee financial management generally and provide oversight and management of contracts and grants.
Work with executive director and board's development committee to implement development plan and calendar.
Develop funding proposals to solicit private, corporate and foundation support.
Take primary responsibility for TAG direct mail and donor publications including the spring and fall donor appeals, the annual report, the fall update, donor newsletter, including writing, production, and maintaining timely mailing.
Oversee development, editing, and publication of TAG program and policy materials working closely with TAG's editorial director and project staff.
Oversee development and implementation of TAG's communications strategy in close cooperation with the executive director and program staff.
Assume leadership of the organization when the Executive Director is absent and unavailable; coordinate among the Board and staff; manage staff; and ensure smooth operation of the organization in these circumstances.
Assist executive director with special projects as needed.

Expertise in non-profit and international grants management.
At least five years experience in non-profit organizational management, and fundraising.
Excellent verbal and written communication, organization, prioritization, and follow up skills.
Bachelors degree or equivalent experience required; advanced degree would be helpful.
Experience managing multiple projects and employees who are often traveling or located away from head office.
Experience in managing human resource issues.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, particularly Access and Excel; proficiency in project management and donor relation software would be helpful as well.
Ability to work well as a member of a team and a strong passion for AIDS research and treatment advocacy.
