HOURS: 40 Hours per week
PAY: $11.06/hr to $12.19/hr DOE

Job Description:
Supervised by the BABES Network Executive Director, this position will work closely with three agencies, BABES, Seattle Treatment Education Project (STEP) and the AIDS Clinical Trials Unit (ACTU) to provide information about HIV and it's treatments to women living with HIV throughout the state of Washington. The goal of the Peer Treatment Educator position is to present information in an unbiased and easy to understand manner through group presentations, one-on-one sessions and in the BABES Talking newsletter.

Job Duties:
-Research, write and layout the monthly one-page treatment article "BABES Perspective"
-Present information on HIV disease, treatment, adherence and clinical trials to groups of positive women around the state, and in Idaho, Montana and Oregon
-Have one-on-one meetings with HIV+ women (your peers) to discuss HIV disease, treatment, adherence and research in person and by phone and refer women to other needed services
-Stay up-to-date on information about HIV, it's treatments, research and help with adherence
-Co-facilitate a weekly support group
-Answer the STEP Talkline one afternoon per week
-Work with the ACTU to help women accessing clinical trials to get involved with BABES, and help BABES members better understand clinical trial options
-Facilitate some other BABES events including two retreats

Qualifications: The Successful candidate for this position will demonstrate:
-Ability to listen and talk easily with other HIV+ women in a non-judgemental way
-Ability to keep confidentiality
-Ability to present information in an unbiased manner
-Solid knowledge of HIV disease, and the ability to quickly digest new information
-Ability to present complex information in easy to understand ways
-Solid writing skills
-Ability to relate to a wide range of HIV+ women as a peer
-Responsibility and flexibility
-Knowledge of HIV services as a consumer
-Ability to help women speak up for themselves
-Willingness to learn new job skills
-Willingness to travel for work, and work on evenings and weekends
-Public speaking experience is a plus
