I have been goin through an acute episode of Hepatitis-B for 3 months now and cant seem to find anyone out there who has also gone through this and i have no one to talk to, I feel sooo alone and stressed out over this entire episode, I am hoping someone else out there knows what i am going through and can share there experiences with me. at least tell me what to expect or offer some suggestions or words of encouragment? I had no idea that this was such a big problem in the gay comminity, all I ever heard about was HIV, and furthermore I always practiced safe sex! If I had known there was a vaccine to prevent this altogether I would sooo have done it PERIOD!. I would really appreciate ANYONE out there that can be of ANY help at all, at least someone to talk to...thanks!

You might check online for Hepatites.com (I think thats the site). It would have some useful information. Best of luck to you!

Yes, there are many of us. You did not say if you are HIV+, or what if any cocktail you are on.
I had a recurrance of Hep B, and my Dr. changed the regimine to include Viread, which has shown efficacy against Hep B, as well as HIV. Is working well for me.
You also should have viral loads run on the Hep B, and realize that you may be able to get over it, but it may just be a situation of control. That is where I am at.
You can also make inquiries to the Dr.'s at The Body, and can get some very useful advice. Be specific about the details of what meds you are on, what your general health situation is, and anything else you can think of that would be useful in their reply. One of the sources I used to find out about the Viread treatment.
Remember, don't drink or do recreational drugs if you want to have a prayer of hope in successful resolution. Do anything you can to control toxins that have to clear by the liver. It can make the difference in the outcome.
Been there, made mistakes. But in spite of all of that, doing well. Have dealt with it as long as the HIV, 18+ years.

another site for info is www.hivandhepatitis.com - they have lots of info on HIV and HBV for people who are co-infected or have either one. It can be pretty technical, but they also have a Q&A section where you can obtain specific information from their staff of doctors.
My doctor put me on Hepsera and it's had a tremendous impact on my HBV viral load. Good Luck.

Thank you for your response. I actually only have Hep-B not HIV. I am still going through the acute episode and still am having symptoms like yellow in stools and some pain on the right side and it has been 3 months tommorow since I got sick! I'm just getting very discouraged and am scared I might go chronic, but I guess I will just cross that bridge when I get to it. The hardest part has been not having anyone to talk to or anyone who can relate, Ive searched for support groups here in LA and there are none, I even asked at the Gay and Lesbian Center here in LA and they dont know of any. Anyway, thanks to all for letting me vent, if anyone needs or would like someone to talk to please e-mail me directly if you like at Markychv@sbcglobal.net Would be nice to have a friend right now.

I was diagnosed w/acute HBV about a year and a half ago. I began feeling extreme fatigue and decided to get it checked out. Shortly after my physician confirmed I had HBV, I developed jaundice and my urine turned the color of tea; however, the worst part of the whole experience was the nearly constant nausea! When I couldn't throw up anything else I would dry heave. I became extremely sensitive to odors, and any strong odors resulted in more dry heaves. The worst part of all this lasted a few weeks, then I slowly began to recover. I was fortunate, as I eventually eliminated the virus from my body and tested positive for the antibodies. My suggestions to you: Learn all you can about HBV. Work with your physician, who will monitor your liver enzymes and can prescribe medications to help you deal with the nausea. AVOID ALCOHOL! Yes, HBV is quite common in the gay population. We should all take it more seriously, as it can become chronic. Hope this has helped some. :)

Thank for the reply! Just a question for you, how long did it take for you to get rid of the suface antigen and develop antibodies? I was diagnosed on Dec 12th and was out for 2.5 months, in fact I just went back to work 2 weeks ago and I still havent got rid of the surface antigen and its been exactly 3 months :-(
