kaposi's sarcoma
      #833 - 03/30/00 05:01 PM

If a Kaposi's sarcoma is diagnosed, is it an important thing to
treat? I guess the question is, will other things kill a person
first?....Is this a sign that the end is in sight? What relevence
is a Kaposi's sarcoma? Is it simply a common cancer that people
with aids get, and grows so slowly that it is a non-issue? If
someone really has some knowledge on this I would like a few
hints about Kaposi's sarcoma. Thank You!

Kaposi's Sarcoma, a condition often associated with advanced HIV
infection, is more common in men and treatable. It does not mean
the end, it is just an indicator of an extremely low T Cell
count. Doxorubicin is an antineoplastic drug which has in vitro
and in vivo activity against malignancies such as KS. The optimal
treatment for KS depends on the extent of the disease and
immunologic status. Fortunately, KS usually runs a slow, indolent
course; however, visceral involvement is life threatening.
Topical gel causes fewer therapy limiting skin reactions than the
oral formulations, and achieves greater efficacy rates. Talk to
your doctor and get the appropriate treatment as soon as
possible. Good luck. Josh (jjason1@hotmail.com)
