my liver
      #739 - 03/30/00 09:11 PM

After one month on the cocktail my liver crashed. I was diagnosed
1/98 and began taking Viracept, Viramune and Zerit in June. I
spent July 4th weekend in bed with yellow skin and eyes, nausea,
no appetite and fantasies of putting a gun in my mouth. I felt
that bad. Tests were negative for viral hepatitis. My dr. pulled
me off the meds and a month later my liver enzymes are almost
normal. He has started me again on Viracept and Zerit and will
add ddi (I think) later. He believes the Viramune caused the
problem with the liver. I hope he is right cause I don't want to
go through THAT again. Every stomach rumble or abdominal pain
conjures fears of a liver ins distress. Has anyone had a similar
experience with any of the cocktail drugs? Needless to say I am
concerned about my ability to tolerate the "cure". By the way, I
am 48 and in May my load was 6800 and cd4s were about 500. I have
always been healthy. I am not a heavy drinker or drug user.

I am really concerned that people believe that these combinations
are THE CURE. They are not. I am not taking the meds as I have
seen how they can affect people. I may if my surrogate markers
change dramatically. I am experiencing great results from a
holistic approach. I am on the following supplements:
Multivitamin, Multimineral, CoQ-10--100 mg, NAC-1000mg, DHEA-25
mg, B-Complex-75 mg, B-12-500 mcg, Vitamin E-400 IU, Copper-1 mg,
Vitamin C-1500 mg, Omega 3-6-9--1000mg, Brewers Yeast--800 mg,
L-Lysine--200 mg, methathionine-1000mg, Propolis-1000 mg, Royal
Jelly 500 mg, Digestive Enzymes--1000mg. I was diagnosed in
April--T cells have increased to 820 from 690, viral load
continues down from 550,000 in April to 60,000 last checked in
