hi my name is chuck and I have been hiv+ since feb 98. I went to the emergency room at the local hospital because of breathing problems. the diagnosis was pneumonia, thats when the aids test was given. when the baseline tests were done my cd4 was 52 and viral load was 195,000. my doctor told me with counts like that i have been positive for quite some time. currently the meds i am taking is norvir, invarase, videx, zerit, bactrim, and marinol. after 10 weeks of treatment and lots of trips to the bathroom my counts are currently, cd4 59 and the viral load is less than 500. i guess i'm one of the lucky ones that my meds are working for now, but why am i still feeling like crap? if anyone is going through the same situation i would like to here from from you. thanks for listening!:)

Chuck--I know what you mean about feeling awful all the time. When I was doing the Norvir it was rough. I ended up stopping it. Chances are good that it's the medications making you feel bad. I put up with Norvir and it's diarrhea for over a year before I begged off it. Now I'm on Fortovase, Viramune, Viracept and that's it for me. I do take other meds but none that act on the hiv virus. I've found over the years that one thing all the drugs have in common is the diarrhea. Guess it's just something we have to learn to live with. My body and I have reached an agreement--I take my anti-diarrhea medicine every morning and my body will only over-ride that about once a week. So far its' been okay. Take care and be good. Keep your chin up, eat right, exercise, and look to the future. Also, if you're so inclined, (do it anyway) say a prayer. Doug

Chuck, I had almost the exact scenario happen to me in November of 1997. Breathing problems, diagnosed as pnemonia, tested HIV Positive. My t-cells were as low as 20, and my viral load was 185,000. After six months of Novir, Inviranase/Fortovase, Epovir, and Zerit my t-Cells are now at 80 and rising, and viral load undetectable. I know what you mean about feeling awful and running to the bathroom, the first few months were pretty hard to get used to, but now I feel really good!! I guess it just takes some time for your system to acculmate to the Norvir. Now, I have occasional digestive problems, but it's much easier. My Doctor just added Viramune to my regimen, and I seem to be handling that well also. I am also taking Zythomax for prevention of MAC, and because I am allergic to Bactrim, I get monthly inhalant treatments to prevent PCP. I feel optimistic about the future and feel stronger every day. Keep a positive outlook and don't let the numbers scare you off.....Good Luck!! Patrick
