Platlet Count

I was diagnosed in Jan 2003 & at that time my viral load was 750,000 and my CD4 was 52. I was also told my platelet count was 116. Since then, after starting meds, my VL has dropped to 92, my CD4 has climbed to 255 BUT my platlets have dropped to 16. My specialist doesn't seem too worried by this, but just tells me to avoid any heavy contact sports or activities that may cause bruising or bleeding. Any body else had this problem? Just looking for information really.

Sorry, but I would be worried about this. Something is causing you to have a low platelet count. Are you getting enough nutrition, (including vitamins)? Many medications can rape your system of vital nutrients. I have to suppliment furiously sometimes. I have found that my meds go after water-soluble vitamins like B-complex & C. Get in touch with a nutritionist, possibly at your local hospital.
Get a second opinion. The platelet count is just too low for comfort.

Thanks for that. I am worried in truth as I realise these things don't "just happen". I have an appointment this week with my specialist & have a "thousand things" I want to ask. The nutrition question is one of them. I eat a very balanced diet, but take few supplements - only multivitamins & Omega 3 supplements (I have a high cholesterol you see). Thanks for your advice.
