Drug Holiday
      #60804 - 03/16/03 10:29 AM

I have not taken any HIV meds for 6 months now with my Doctors approval. In fact he suggested it. I have two more months to go. I started with 1210 cd4's. Last labs cd4's were 658. Is anyone else out there taking a holiday ? I am curious as to how many people with HIV are being treated with this method. Any replies will be greatly appreciated.

Wow your tcell count fell a lot! I think you should see another specialist! Are you seeing an experienced HIV specialist? when does your doctor say you will need to go back on treatment? I was thinking of doing a holiday but was convinced it wasn't safe.

I've been in the 35 to 300 range for the past 5 years. No meds. T-cells in my case have not correlated with illness. I monitor them every six months, but would not take HIV drugs due to the deforming side effects I've seen.

I have been on a drug holiday for about 2 years. Recently I have been getting discouraging numbers. But my quality of life i good. I generally am healthy and enjoy life without meds. I have set a low number on my cd4s when they reach 350 i will continue with meds. I don't want to get much lower than that. I will test again in May and find out if they are below that figure. But until then I don't dwell on it just try to enjoy each day with a little stress as possible. Later..........
