One exposure = seroconvertion
      #42658 - 10/29/02 06:38 PM

Hi everybody.
I had 1 unprotected anal exposure to a person at high risk. There was no ejac. (but probably precum) but later he fingered and there might be some on his finger. It is true that it is reasonable I should consider him as positive in order to plan the action (so get tested, etc.) but I need to cope with the fear.
Is there anybody who tested NEGATIVE after 1 contact?
Is there anybody who just tested POSITIVE after 1 contact? Do you know feasible stories about friends of yours about it?
I will appreciate any feedback.

PS. I am on PEP with alot of symptoms that can be referred either to ARS as to PEP itself.

It's the precum you should worry about. And the fact that anal sex is so much more high risk then anything else...did you have blood?

I did not bleed. Anyway when he fingered I felt some sore, so I told him to stop and he did. The morning after I had some anal discomfort, not a real sore (passed after about half a day), and I found some very little traces of blood on the toilet paper after "scratching" a bit. This happened one time only and had no blood traces on underware (looked for them carefully).

When anal intercouse is engaged, blood does not have to be present to become infected. Virus can enter through membrane via body fluids.

It would just be awful bad luck if after one exposure you got HIV...it depends on lots of factors, including your immune system at the time and if the person is positive, his viral load at the time...if he has a high viral load he's more infective. If he's undetectable, then he's not as infective. You can, you realize, get lots of other sexually transmitted diseases much easier...so you should check for those. Plus all men who have anal sex (receptive) should get an anal pap smear to check for pre-cancerous cells.

Good luck!

You say that this guy is of high risk, but your not sure if he's positive or not. Why don't you ask him if he's ever been tested. Tell him that you are concerned over what you did and that you want to put your mind at risk. If he tells you that he is positive then you have your answer, if he says he's not sure or that he's not then you have to decide how you want to deal with it.

I have known many couples where one if poz and the other is neg, they have very passionate relationships, and do many of the same things that you said you did and they have been fine for years. I also know a few people who claim that they were just fingered by a guy who had jerked off and are now positive.

If you check out the "am I infected" group you will find tons of guys who torment themselves for weeks, months and years over a one time event with a person who's status they don't know. If you are that concerned, first start off by not doing anything that will put you at risk for the next 3 months and get tested. At that point you will get an answer and you can get on with your life.

Hope that helps
