Gay Men

why do gay men have unprotected sex knowing they are in the highest risk group?
Even higher than sex works. Not being judgemental, just wondering.

Let me answer that with a question. Why is it that after all these years that people still view aids and hiv as a gay disease. Let a group of 50 straight people for example, get hiv, and have only one of those 50 be gay or bi-sexual. Take a guess which one of those people will get the blame for infecting the remaining 49.

You are missing my point. I'm not saying it is a gay disease, but that if infects gays at a disproportionate rate. For example, it is estimated that 40% of Afro-Am gay men are HIV+. Why take such a risk?

I'm afro-Am male. Not racist.

I said earlier that I was not being judgemental just observative, but obviously you are offended because you know I am right. Gays are less in number than heteros yet HIV infects you guys more and its not because you test more.
Women test all the time. Due process when carrying child and child is tested when born so don't say you test more because I've just mentioned women and children not straight men who enter armed forces or those who donate blood or those who apply for life insurance.
My point is when this disease first came out you guys (gay white males) were infected disproportinately, now gay black males are infected at a disproportionate number and that number has started to rise again in gay white males due to new meds. My point is why are you guys still taking the risk??

Answer this for me since you are "right". Why is it that the h.i.v epidemic in Africa is in the hetrosexual community and children? Is it because of us (white guys). Plus anyone with blood flowing through their veins is at risk. This disease doesn't care about social class or sexual preference. This disease hit i.v. drug users first then the so-called gay "community", then children. It's always been wrong to call it a gay disease because if straight people out number gays, then of course it's going to be associated with the smaller group. The smaller group would have the higher percentage.

We all know that the epidemic in Aferica is due large in part because of crazy beliefs and lack of education. I recently read where infected men in africa believe if they have sex with a virgin it will clean his blood and there have been reports where men were having sex with babies, like days old babies, in an attempt to clean their blood, but I am not talking about the MotherLand(africa) I speak of america where knowledge of this disease was talked within the gay circles before the straight world knew. You called it the "gay" cancer.
My point again is why do gays, who are still in the highest risk of contacting HIV, continue to have unprotected anal and oral sex.

I can't speak on behalf of the entire gay community. But I can tell you that I became h.i.v. and I practised safe sex. Condoms reduce the risk, but the risk is still there. It's kind of like asking the question how come so many teenagers are still becomming pregnant when birth control is so easy to get.

Another point also is that this disease can lay dormant up to 12 years and possibly longer, no one knows for sure. So if every one did play safe from the beginning it would still be an epidemic. But I wonder if h.i.v. would be as bad as it is today if everyone would have been tested in 1986 and found out what their status was then instead of thinking that this person is o.k. because they look healthy. But actually the first case of h.i.v. was reported in 1976, they were a flight attendant from Canada, and some researchers claim that the first case was in 1952.

I am not sure if I can or want to answer this
there is no simple explenation for anything important
it's different for anyone...
but this is serious
so why do people take this serious risc?
it's a profound question...
it can't be answered in a simple way
I think we could write a hole book about that
and it would be many pages

Well it makes a good story. Just like hiv came from monkeys! The truth is that hiv is whatever you want it to be.

I hate to tell you but women and infants are not automaticaly tested.I know this because it happened to me.Unless you request to be tested or your doctor suspects you are infected you will not be tested.I think the guy was right. It is just because more gay people get tested because they are more aware. If straight people would do the same the numbers would climb. There is yet a stigma attached to this diease that it is still a ( gay disease)straight people need to wake up .It don't care about your sexuality or race,If your rich or poor. This is one no one can hide from.So on that note I wish you all the best,No matter who you are....lonesomedove

The information you give is misleading and outright false. 95% of all HIV/AIDS cases are Male, either homosexual or other, they all involve the use of drugs. Stop buying the CDC scare-tactic bullshit claiming that HIV/AIDS is a sexually transmitted disease. IT IS NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wake up people!

Condoms REDUCE the risk, and in reality the risk is still there to a small degree. A condom can break or have a flaw in it that is so small that one will not notice it until afterward. From the beginning condom manufacturers stated they reduce the risk but were not a 100% guarantee against the disease, and the health care community agreed with this totally. Now they have magically became a total guarentee against HIV and AIDS. I would like to know how.
