Anal cancer

I tested positive 14 years ago, and have had several AIDS complications. But this is my most recent cause for alarm:
My rectal surgeon has been monitoring and burning off my anal warts for the past 2 years. Recently, we decided one recurring spot needed to have a biopsy, and it came back, in his words, "very very very early cancer, similar to what a person would get from too much time in the sun". I haven't seen the report yet to know exactly which type of cancer, but he's going to remove the entire area around that biopsied spot, plus any other similar areas.
Is anyone else going through a similar situation, and have you tried anything other than cutting out chunks of your butt?

Hi John, I was diagnosed with Anal cancer over 2 years ago and underwent radiation thereapy and chemo. 6 Months later I had a colostomy due to intractable pain. Then last November they found a tumor in my liver and I went through more chemo to shrink it and finally 5 weeks ago a liver resection to cut it out.
The cancer has been more of a problem than HIV and I'd be interested in hearing from anyone else.

The terror I felt when my colorectal surgeon said cancer I felt all over again reading your response. I feel so lucky, for now - mine has abated, using aldara, which is still working, and monitoring regularly, and excising whenever it shows up. But living with this fear, you're right, is almost worse than AIDS itself. And no one else with AIDS seems to realize that things like this (and cmv retinitis, which I was diagnosed with lately) can still happen with today's meds.
When one doctor mentioned the possibility of a colostomy to me years ago, I remembered what my father went through years ago, and I almost jumped for her throat. So far, I've been lucky. I did attend a cancer support group (Gilda's Club) for awhile. Have you tried that? Good luck, guy.
