HIV Paranoia
      #245166 - 03/29/09 03:30 AM

Hi All,

I'm still in the closet, so unfortunately most of my sexual enoutners have been through hook up sites such as manhunt. I've only done oral sex with other men. I do not hook up on a general basis, and if I do hook up, I mostly have chatted with the guy for a while.

I've been tested a few times and result in Negative.
I've encountered a recent scare, as I hooked up with this guy who was also closeted, that I had been chatting with for a while. We did oral and as always I felt guilty afterwards. Anyhow, just for my sanity I kept communication with him. He had been laid off, then to find out his father was laid off. He then disappeard off the face of the earth, and wasn't responding to my text messages, and I didn't see his account on manhunt any more.
I texted him to confirm his HIV Status and he's not responded.

Automaically I became nervous. I always do research on HIV after I get nervous, then I start to think I have it or have been exposed to it becuase of my gigivitis etc. Then I think what if my gums were bleeding and I didnt know etc.

I have a friend who works with the HIV testing Agency here in town, and he is always telling me I'm paranoid and that I'm wasting my time getting tested.

Am I paronoid?? Thoughts? Please I'd like your feed back.

First.....if you think you are infected with HIV... get tested.
Second...paranoid? yes. To think that a guy is HIV positive because he no longer responds to your messages is paranoid. He probably cannot afford his account anymore and had to give it up for a period of time while he is laid off and has no income.

While not limited to HIV, people can talk themselves into believing they have the symptoms of almost any disease. The condition is called Psychosomatic Stress. It can mimic several symptoms, like heart attack, shortness of breath, flu-like and muscle pain.

When it is chronic and involves multiple diseases without verifiable symptoms, it is then a psychological condition of Hypochondria. Counseling is recommended for this, to at least get stress coping techniques.

Stress plays a vital role in our lives of giving us a "fight or flight" response to sudden situations. But long term, unrelieved stress has been increasingly linked to real physical conditions such as heart disease, migraines and immune deficiencies.
