Any positive guys out there who have also dealt with genital herpes? I'm curious to know how you've handled the issue in dating and sexual situations. How do you tell someone you're HIV-positive AND have genital herpes?

My former partner had genital herpes and after 13 years of totally unsafe sex ( it was pre AIDS era) I never caught herpes from him. He knew when he was having an outbreak and would refrain from sex during outbreaks. Luckily he told me about the herpes....so that I could be aware of it. Then he had to tell me he was HIV positive. I guess that was harder but he did. You HAVE to tell your sex partners....but otherwise its nobodys business.

That was so uncalled for. Hon, the only advie I can give to you is be HONEST. We are only as sick as our secrets. Meds help keep the herpes virus dormant, limiting your breakouts. You will find the right person to share your suffering with and they will love you for you! Hang in there...SF

Thanks for the responses. I would appreciate any further CONSTRUCTIVE comments, rather than hostile rants such as the one offered by MKULTRA.

I'm POZ and my ex was NEG. He had herpes and didn't share the news with me until I nearly died from the initial infection. He's still NEG (and an EX) but I'm now POZ for both HIV and herpes. Now, I get painful outbreaks in my throat--not fun. You CAN infect someone with herpes without having a sore. If that newly infected person has HIV or a weakened immune system (for other reasons), it can be VERY serious. Like I said, I nearly died. I guess what I'm saying is JUST TELL THEM. There's no easy way but it needs to be done.
