My partner just started taking ritonavir in the liquid form and it tastes really bad. Furthermore, after taking it, he becomes very nauseous and weak. We would like to hear from people with similar experiences that might have tips for relieving these side effects. I am Dave and I can be reached at dnancarrow@jps.net and nancard@concert.com. My partner is Cal and he can be reached at yourpalcal@jps.net.

I read somewhere of someone taking jalapenos peppers before taking the Norvir--he eats a couple of slices of jalapeno peppers. Then he takes the Norvir with a spoon of peanut butter and/or a Reese's peanut butter cup. I try this sometimes. Other times I just suck on some sour candies or coat my mouth with peanut butter or chocolate. JG

I sympathize with the norvir nightmare. I had to stop due to horrible side effects: vomiting, weakness, etc. But as for the taste, this is going to sound really stupid, but you could suck the norvir up in a turkey baster (yes! a turkey baster!) and stick the baster way way back in your throat and squeeze. It's weird, but worked for me. Or you could go and buy empty gel caps at a pharmacy and "inject" the norvir into them...I did that for a while and it's great: no taste at all! However, some doctors say that it may cause absorption problems, some say not, so check with your doc. Or still yet, coat your tongue with Nutella, didn't work for me, but some swear by it. Above all, GOOD LUCK! ;-)

I take it like a shot. I put the ritonivir dose in a small pill bottle, fill it with milk and drink it as I would a shot of alcohol. I find very little aftertaste this way. As for side effects, I've had none.

My partner takes it with chocalate ensure, it helps to cut the taste.
