i am terrified that i may have gotten infected and know i feel like everything in my body is acting weird. maybe it is the anxiety or stress. can anybody please tell me how accentuated these symptoms are? like now, i am stressing because my pinky finger has been kinda numb since last nite. they say that you may experience foot or finger numbness or tingling. so, is this numb pinky finger the beginning of that? or am i stressing way too much. please reply. thanks.

Hello:
As an HIV program specialist who does testing and counseling for a living, I can tell you that people can very easily panic themselves into bringing on any number of symptons. So try to calm down.
The tingling in the hands and feet you are talking about is called peripheral neuropathy. It is very rare as a symptom of seroconversion illness--the illness up to 80% of people get usually within 4 weeks of infection.
Besides, the serocon illness symptoms rarely come in ones. They usually arrive in a bunch. The most common is fever. Headache, nausea, muscle soreness, diarrhea, fatigue, are also reported by over 50 percent of people reporting the illness.
The illness usually resolves within a couple of weeks; it may be very mild or so severe that hospitalization is required.
How long has it been since you were exposed? Since the average length of time it takes for a positive test to show is 25 days, why don't you get tested. Or better yet, if you have the means, have a viral load test done. If you are seroconverting, the viral load will be very high.
You're welcome to contact me at my email address if you like.
Best of luck,
David
