I recently started taking Sustiva and Truvada after my numbers dropped significantly in October. I was very hesistant and wasn't prepared to enter the next stage, a major step, in this disease. I was fortunate not to encounter many of the horrific side effects I heard about. I did and still do struggle with a new found depression, but I keep it at bay by keeping myself as busy as possible! Starting the drugs was a major battle of my mind over matter. I celebrated my birthday in November and went on a 2 week drinking binge, which I'm fully aware isn't the best accompanying diet for these INTENSE drugs! Fortunately, I simmered down and visited my doc last week to get my latest test results! My liver and kidneys look great! My CD4 has more than doubled and my Viral Load has dropped to 458!!! The first time in the two years of dealing wiith this disease that my viral load didn't end in "thousand!" I know it doesn't mean I'm cured or that I'm free to do what I damn well please, but it has given me a shimmer of hope that things will be ok, or at least they're not as bad I think. I just hope that this is the first of a plentitude of good news in this new stage of my disease! Thank you again to all for your words of encouragement and advice to give me the courage to begin the medications in the first place. It's comforting to know I'm not alone!

I'm glad to hear your progress. I'm on the same regimen. I'm about 1 year into treatment, and my VL continues to be undetectable (you'll get there, too). My T-cells continue to climb.
There is indeed reason to have hope for the future. Just be sure to adhere to the treatment plan.

Exitrow... Boy that is great news and I am happy for you. Me and my Partner will be taking that leap into the area that you are now in. I am not aprehensive yet, but I know the day will come with our doctor is going to tell us its time. I 2 have read about the horror stories. But I think those stories are few and far between now-a-days. Our specialist says you can antisipate little to know problems. So, I will wait to write my own story when it comes down to the day of going on meds. It is an exciting time with the Drug Pipline chuck full of all new regimens over the next few years. We burn out on one, they switch you to another and yet another and keep beating this dude back into his hidding place until they can finally blow it out of the water. I hope the come up with something new for names. You know? Sustiva and Truvada - not very colorful. What about "The Iliminator" or "Terminator" or "Iradicator". I so much want to be rid of this and for me its barely started. Ive got alot of growing to do. I will amagine that this will happen over soome time. Enjoy your good news and life and that its going to go on and on and on..
All my Prayers

Mr now it all get your facts right < off course drugs are toxic but i have not heard you suggesting a better solution And on this moment people are living longer with drugs than without !!! You are not helping anyone by your negative attitude as long as you are not able to offer some thing better ton

Toxicity or not.. I plan on doing what my HIV (renound) Specialist recomends. What would you rather have me do?, drink green tea and hope this helps? Maybe a quick jog around the park will knock this baby back into hidding? hmmmmm... Nope, not in my book. My doctor is going to take super care of me and my partner and we will be around just as long as you my friend (unless you are the green tea type guy). You probably better get your papers in order. I plan on waiting till Im sixty to do that...
Right now, is all I have. Right now, I am in great shape, and the doctor says "this will not change". Faith, Trust in what is true and not that which is spun out of fear.

Ignore the quack and all who might say HIv does not cause Aids. I have been on Sustiva, Viread and Epivir a regimen quite like yourself and I have never had any problems my Tcells are good and my Vl is undetectable. I should also say I have been on these meds since 03 with no ill effects so no worries and just be happy and live your life!!

What a treat to read your letter that is so upbeat. I'm sure your stress level is down by much much. Right? I can tell. What a wonderful thing for you. Now go out and smile big for everyone>
