Hi There,
Im extremely worried after having unprotected sex with a female partner (4/5 times) who has today kindly anounced to me she is HIV positive. During those 4 or 5 times, we also engaged in Anal sex on one occasion. I don't believe, I had any cuts or sores on my penis at the time.
Unfortunately I've been unable to visit my clinic for a test yet, but I will hopefully be able to do that tomorrow. Could anyone tell me what the chances are that I have been infected. I'm mega worried, and have no one with any knowledge to talk to.
In addition, to this... does anyone have information about the tests in the UK, time frames for results etc?
Please help!
Regards, Gee

you put yourself at SERIOUS risk for HIV infection. That fact that you had sex more than once makes it even riskier.
You need to get tested RIGHT AWAY, then 13 weeks after your last exposure.
After the last test and you are still NEG, thank GOD and buy SOME CONDOMS.
Really sorry this girl lied to you. I guess she had her reasons. You could press charges.
When was the date of your last exposure???

Not sure how much info you need on clinics etc in the UK......
To find your nearest GUM clinic where your test will be done in the strictest of anonymity, visit http://www.playingsafely.co.uk/worried/where/where_can_i_get_help.asp and enter your postcode to find your nearest clinic
Most clinics will have at least one day per week where you can get tested in the morning and return in the afternoon for the results. You normally need to make an appointment for the test. If you cannot get a same day results appointment, then the timeframe varies from clinic to clinic from next day to a week
All the best to you
H

My last exposure was on the 10th May 2004.
Does anyone have % probability on the chances of me being infected?

Hello mate I do feel sorry for you I am going through a similar anguish. Though I was protected but paranoid the condom split!! All I can say is that there are probabilities on this site, and as you are the insertive partner you are of a lower risk than a receptive person. I think I am right in saying that. The only problem is the more often you do it the probabilities of contracting it are more likely. I think someone on this site has given these statistics but dont know where they are let u know if I find them. About testing I am 6 weeks this Sunday from risk which they say in 95% of people if you are infected it will show by then! I am going at 8 weeks then a conclusive 12 weeks( which is a painful wait ). I wish you luck are you still with her? I mean if you think it may work have a go and practice safe sex. I told my g.friend and she is very understanding hope she stays like that. Also if you want to stay in contact do so it is good to talk to a fellow Brit. Regards

I just looked for you and its on page 6 at the moment say what is the possibility of having hiv infection ( i think) some body has replied with probabilities. I am getting a test done in the midlands and the results take 1 day to come back!! I have been tested for chlymidia and gonareah(spelling may be wrong) I was ok with these. Results took a week. Only problem is it took 2.5 weeks to get in. I have been in touch with others and can take up to 4 weeks appointment. So get in now I know its not much for me to say, but hang in there. Regards

Thanks mate, it's good to talk to someone who is experiencing the same problems. I have been to the GUM clinic today and have had 2 blood tests taken. 1 test is the antiviral test, and the other test was to test for viral load. The doctor claims that the viral load test will be accurate after only 3 weeks, where as the antiviral test has to be performed after 90days of last having intercourse. God, 6 bottles of blood doesn't half take it out of you!
With regards to the girl.... at first I was extremely angry, I wanted to report her to the police. But having spent several hours searching the internet and contemplating that I might have the disease myself, I can understand why she took the decision not to tell me.
She was simply scared I would simply turn my back on her, which to be fair would have happend before I learned more about the virus.
She is now really sorry as she is seeing what stress she has put me through. She has also promised me that she will never do this to anyone again.
But, now... I feel really sorry for her, and I have promised to support her through thick and thin regardless of the results of my tests. I'm not sure if I can continue to play russian roulette with her by having sex, but I will definately remain close to her. I need to give her all the support I can, especially when the time comes where she needs to take medication.
One thing I have realised, is that the nicest people in the world also catch HIV, its not just a disease that comes from a dirty needle. Regardless of my results, I wish everyone "all the best" who is having to go through the potential life sentance.
Thanks for everyone's help! I'll let you know my results when I get them.
Gee

Have you or her EVER heard of CONDOMS???
Even if she was AFRAID to tell you you or her could have STILL used a CONDOM. If you used a condom you wouldn't have EVEN been at RISK.
They do have condoms in England?

The first time we had sex the condom split, ironically the first time a condom has ever split on me.
And, yes.... England was using condoms around the same time Christopher Columbus set foot on the "new world", probably before.

Can anyone verify these stats....
Table I: Estimated Likelihood of HIV Transmission Following Unprotected Sex or Contaminated Needle Exposure when the Source is HIV Infected(10)
Exposure Likelihood of Transmission...
Receptive anal intercourse 0.1%-0.3% (1/1,000-3/1,000) Receptive vaginal intercourse 0.08%-0.2% (0.8/1,000-2/1,000) Injection-needle sharing 0.67% (6.7/1,000) Insertive anal sex 0.03% (3/10,000) Insertive vaginal sex 0.03%-0.09% (3/10,000-9/10,000)
If this is the case, there would be less than a 1% chance that I have contracted HIV.

hey Just because she is positive it doesnt mean you have hiv! Hiv is a frigile virus to transmit. especially from female to male. How sure are you that the girl is positive? 12 weeks is the guide in the UK for the window period! Their is no need to test before that time as the 3 month mark will be conclusive! we all make mistakes but we must learn from them! take care and be safe. (I have heard of positive people having unprotected sex for years without their partners being infected) Hope this helps

I know, but it's still concerning. Im sure the girl is positive, I've been to the doctors with her while she had a viral load test which registered at 1300 which is apparently quite low.

That is a very kind hearted and open minded reaction to your girl. Please keep us posted of your test results. I wish you the absolute best.
God bless....

how sure are you that she has hiv? Viral testing does not mean HIV!! either way you should never go by someone elses results. Have your own test to confirm your status which i'm sure you will be fine. I do expect you will test negative at 13 weeks.

you did not mention if it was protected or unprotected sex?? protected no worry unprotected you stand some risk. Depends on her viral load and many other thing as well. The odds are in your favor at any rate. Get a DNA/PCR test at about 30 days. That will be a great indicator If it is Neg rest easy and learn from this .
