Window Period
      #190415 - 05/09/06 11:59 AM

I've been reading several posts about the WP and have found several discrepancies. Based on all the posts i have read here, other websites I have visited (WebMd, Aegis, Aidsmeds, UN, WHO, CDC, NYDH, MASS DH, and several others, I tend to agree with the statement that the WP is a crock of crap. Some people test + at 3 weeks and some at 12 months?????? That is a HUGE statistical difference.... Thas is 1 YEAR ladies and gents!!! What do we tell the people that test at 3 and or 6 months that they can go on and live their life but then test + the next time they test and have had NO OTHER POSSIBLE EXPOSURES? That my friends, tells us the WP is a crock of CRAP!!!! Someones concerned.... Tested -ve at 154 and 210 days -ve via ELISA/EIA. One in the USA and one in a private hospital in Latin America respectively.

What a great answer!!!! At least back it up with some data or valid information....... The problem with the GP is that it is unethical to get accurate figures because of this disease being in humans... The sample sizes are so small, that no accurate figures can be determined!!! Test at 6 weeks and move on... Careful infecting people!!!!!!!

this is the real situation:
keep testing until you satisfy your mind!!, if this means 10 years , then test for 10 year everymonth.
However, today all experts consider 13 weeks conclusive, if no major alterations of your inmune system. The CDC which is the most conservative organization in the world , says 13 weeks. The industry is interested on longer period as a lot of money is involved, some expert doctors have not seen a siingle case of seroconversion after a 8 weeks negative, ... so these are facts.
My view; 13 weeks and stop testing if you can live with this, but if you can not test as long as you want

It's said that most will convert by 13 weeks and some will take longer. I had a real exposure and have really dead on text book symptoms as well but have tested negative beyond a year. I have done so much research and I think it's either different strains that we don't know about or something new out there. This is just my opinon and we all have one, I have way to many symptoms and so does my spouse that can't be explained by anything else. I would really believe that it was stress by all the people that have told me I was not's but I have someone beside me with the same symptoms so I know in my case it's more. I do believe that if you feel good and it's been past the 13 weeks then you are safe, but if you feel sick as hell I would be a little worried. I really don't want to scare anyone just telling my story for those who can relate.

"some expert doctors" So not all doctors.. I will agree with you on the industry thing totally, however my questions was not answered. The window period is a crock... I know a lot of symptoms can be attributed to stress but a lot of people do truly test +ve past 3 months. There are some on the infected forum who tested +ve post 3 months. I can think of one maybe Franfrog (not sure) but i know at least two or three have tested positive...... These are the ones we know of!! Just my two cents

Look, all the data about the window period is based on statistics. There are always going to be oddball cases that, for one reason or another, defy the norm. But you've got to realize that the chance you're one of those cases is infinitesimally small. For the majority of people, 13 weeks is sufficient time to develop antibodies, as the CDC says.

Agreed but with so many people testing poz after 3 months, I would say it is ludicrous to move the window period from 6 months to 3 months if we cant apply it in the real world. The only way to do this statistically is by using validity and reliability. Window period 6-12 months in my opinion to be 100% sure. Would any of u want anything less than 100%? When u buy a new car do u want anything but 100% ? When u buy a house if there is something wrong with it you call the builder and ask him/her to fix it until the house is 100%. What's the difference with HIV testing? Hell it should be more important than a car or a house etc. This is your health!!!!! I reiterate the window period 6-12 months!!!! PERIOD!!!

But you mention "so many people testing poz after 3 months." That simply isn't true. Very, very few people test positive after 3 months.

No test in medicine is ever 100 percent. You can get close to 100 percent, but nothing is absolute. There's always room for variables, because we're living organisms, not machines.

No there are alot of people out there who test positive after the 3 month mark. There is no magical time frame that covers all. You have to make a rational decision on your own accord. If you feel ill and suspect exposure then you have to consider 6 month to a year. An Infection Disease Doctor once told me that nothing is impossible with this virus, it could take years to show up, because its always changing.

There are a lot people testing poz after 3 months. The Gold standard by the CDC is 6 months (they say in rare cases). Do I want to be the rare case? Hell NO.. I am testing at 6 months and at 12 after reading this!!! Tested negative at 4 1/2 months -ve via EIA

alot of people test pos after 3 months LOL, what a sad bunch of people you guys are.

its so sad that people are alowed to post this JUNK on the forums wihtout backup.

3 months is consclusive, in very odd and rare cases a person may test postive after 3 months.. but its so rare that 99+% of the population have nothing to worry about.

13 weeks has been said in many many websites to be conclusive and in rare cases 6 months.. so dont post garbage and have no backup
