Allergies/sinus infections....symptoms or NOT!???
      #187592 - 04/22/06 11:15 PM

I see where a lot of people are asking about their current allergies or sinus infections. Worrying that they might be symptoms of HIV. Most everyone answers "no....those are not symptoms".....

Yet, not to be the bearer of bad news, if you look over at the "just tested positive" and a couple other forums, you will see that more than one person said that the allergy/sinus infection actually WAS a symptom for them. Sinus infections they couldn't get rid of, allergies they'd never had....etc etc......

but yet over here.....not a symptom??

I guess I just need clarification...cause I don't understand how some on this forum can say "no, allergies and sinus infections have nothing to do with HIV". Yet, people who are truly infected, HAVE had those symptoms...and ARE HIV positive??!?

from what i've read positive folks have to deal with more enhanced allergies. However negative folks have to deal with them as well.. Can u imagine what a mess it would be to figure out hiv + vs -.? And again... U cannot go by symptoms... Test at 6 weeks and then 12/13 weeks to confirm.

Allergeries and sinus infections occur most often in non-HIV individuals. So to suggest that these two things are symptoms of HIV is not plausible. The thing with symptoms is that there are thousands of other causes rather then specifically to HIV. Yes, symptoms can be attributed to a recent infection, however to forgoe all the other causes and say someone has HIV because they have allegeries or a sinus infection is merely assumption (you know what they say about ASSUMING don't you?). The only way to diagnose HIV is an ELISA test at 13 weeks. You cannot diagnose HIV with symptoms.

Actually if u r referring to the autoimmune disease posts on the "i just tested positive" forum it was a question posted to the poz cause they have more experience in this area. Also if u do a search u won't find many postings on allergies. look in the internet.... and all you will find as one of the posts here says is that hiv poz have allergies or are more hightened per say. BTW what was your exposure???
