It really isn't possible to have a yeast infection and not know it. The tip off is the itching and yellowish-white discharge.
Some women who are HIV+ may have more yeast infections that do not respond to treatment due to the immunosupression.
If in doubt, get tested. Good luck.

I don't know if this applies in your case, but I thought it would be helpful to point out that if you are sexually active, it is possible to pass a yeast infection back and forth with your partner. He may not show symptoms, but you can still get it from him repeatedly, which may explain the frequent reoccurrence. In that situation, both partners need to be treated.
Antibiotics can also cause yeast infections by killing off the "good" bacteria that live in the vagina and allowing the yeast cells to overgrow.
Finally, be sure you are not confusing a yeast infection with bacterial vaginosis, which is similar to a yeast infection but may not have any symptoms. BV is NOT an STD - it is an overgrowth of bacteria in the vagina that causes an infection often accompanied by itching and increased discharge. It's easily treated with medication, but it needs to be diagnosed by a doctor - using over-the-counter yeast infection creams will not help.
Hope this information is useful, and calms your fears somewhat...
