Dr. Fisher is a board-certified specialist in internal medicine, and is associate director of the Brown University AIDS Program, staff physician at Rhode Island Hospital in the Department of Medicine and Division of Infectious Diseases, and Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at Brown University School of Medicine. Since 1983 Dr. Fisher has been active in the care of people with HIV/AIDS. He serves on several boards, task forces, commissions, and committees of national and local significance.

He received his B.A. from Brandeis University and his medical degree from the University of Vermont. Dr. Fisher completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence and a fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Brown University.

Dr. Fisher is the recipient of the teaching excellence award from the Rhode Island Hospital Department of Medicine and has been cited three times by Rhode Island Monthly as one of the "Top Doctors" in Rhode Island. He is a member of numerous professional organizations including the International AIDS Society (IAS), Physicians Association for AIDS Care and Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA). He is also a founding board member of AIDS Project Rhode Island and previously served on the board of the AIDS Action Foundation, Washington, DC.

Dr. Fisher is the author or co-author of dozens of publications and abstracts concerning clinical manifestations of HIV infection and AIDS. In addition, he has presented research on HIV/AIDS at numerous national and international scientific conferences.

An active educator on HIV infection and AIDS, Dr. Fisher is chairman of the Brown University AIDS Program Clinical Task Force and a founding member participant of the Primary Provider AIDS education program at Brown University.
