Are there any Minnesota laws on AIDS in the workplace?

Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a federal law, employees are protected from discrimination on the basis of HIV in all aspects of employment including application procedures, hiring, advancement, benefits,
opportunities and any term, condition or privilege of employment. Employees with disabilities may also request "reasonable accommodation" from their employers if they need a change in their work schedule or environment, but are still qualified to perform the essential functions of the job.
Minnesota likely has state and local laws which also cover HIV in the workplace. For answers to specific questions contact the Minnesota AIDS Project Legal Program in Minneapolis at (612) 341-2060.
