I am HIV positive, healthy with high t-cells and low viral load. I am thinking of applying for a position with a VA hospital. I currently work for a private not-for-profit hospital. Does the health care portability legislation apply to such federal jobs such that I would be able to continue to have health insurance coverage? Does the ADA legislation apply for these facilities so that I would have some protection?

I am not familiar with the regulations that govern federal plans. I suggest you contact an organization like AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA) if you are in the LA area or a similar organization that might have information on the implications on a federal job.
