|short term assistance?
Oct 30, 2013
I am HIV positive and have been for over 12 years, I recently lost my job and would like to find out where I can go for short term mortgage assistance, utilities etc. I have already qualified via a case worker with AIDS Foundation Houston but was given a Blue book to find resources on my on why are my options? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Response from Mr. Chambers
If you are not disabled, there are no national programs that can help supplement your income.
Locally however, you may qualify for unemployment in your state. You should also contact your mortgage holder directly. Assistance with utilities is provided by each utility and they each have their own rules, so you should contact them directly also.
Also, work with your case worker to find additional referrals. Occasionally, some local non-profits have access to some supplemental funds. Hopefully, your case worker can refer to any that may be in your area.
Good luck, Jacques
