Response from Mr. Chambers
Despite the advances in HIV treatment, I don't know of any company writing life insurance policies that require medical underwriting (health questions and/or physical exams) that will knowingly issue a policy with a person that is HIV+. There are a few sources for life insurance that do not ask health questions which would be available to people with HIV. Life insurance provided by an employer as an employee benefit is usually issued without health questions, at least a basic amount. For people over 50 (40 in some states), there are graded benefit life policies that ask no questions. (Think Alex Trebek and his commercials for Colonial Penn). There are several companies in that business. They work by only pay the beneficiary the premiums paid plus interest if you die in the first two (or three) years of the policy. After that, they pay the full face amount. Watch out for the really easy plans through credit cards, banks, etc. They are almost always Accident Only policies (and HIV doesn't count).
