 The concern that access to AIDS medications may diminish as countries adopt free trade agreements with developing nations is causing the progress of these negotiations to be carefully monitored. A report posted in June, 2012 acknowledges the importance of cautious negotiations to assure a continuing supply of necessary medications. The report notes: "A UNAIDS/UNDP joint issues brief on Potential Impact of Free Trade Agreements on Public Health highlighting the potential impacts of free trade agreements on public health, launched to coincide with the regional Consultation, concluded that "to retain the benefits of TRIPS flexibilities, countries at a minimum should avoid entering into free trade agreements that containobligations that can impact on pharmaceutical price or availability." Organizations are watching and working to assure that any such agreements do not impair access to necessary medications. I agree with you that it is of utmost importance that the spotlight continues to shine on these negotiations to make sure corporate profits don't outweigh people's lives. | ||||||||
