Response from Mr. Chambers
The EU/India Free Trade Agreement talks have been dragging on far longer than originally anticipated. The latest information is that nothing will be finalized by the upcoming summit on February 10. They are hoping to finalize it by late 2012, but no one knows for sure.
One of the sticking points has been the opposition of India's pharmaceutical industry, but as recently as this week, The Times of India was reporting that "significant progress" has been made in that sector, but no details have been released.
Until the agreement is much closer to approval, it is not possible to say with confidence how this will affect access to HIV medications.
You can keep up with the latest on it with a browser search for "EU - India Free Trade Agreement Pharmaceuticals."
