COBRA expiration and the self employed
Dec 3, 2007

On April 30th of 2008 my COBRA coverage will expire, at which point I understand that I may purchase a HIPPA policy. From what research I have done online, these policies have a low drug benefit (around 1500/year). As an HIV+ individual, my treatment will cost more than I can afford, yet I am not eligible for Medicaid or ADAP because of my income. Are there options I haven't thought of yet? I'm a resident of DC and I'm trying not to switch careers because of my HIV status (I work in theater). Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Response from Ms. Franzoi

I am unaware of any options except for a HIPAA policy. Check with the different policies that are available in your area as some might have greater coverage, especially HMO policies.
