Hi Ms. Franzoi:
What are the chances of being able to purchase supplemental health insurance bieng HIV+? If a person living w/HIV can make such a purchase, what carriers hve those type of policies?
Thank you for your advice.
Response from Ms. Franzoi
What type of supplemental insurance are you looking for? If you are covered under an employer-sponsored plan, it probably would not make sense to purchase an individual policy. There are coordination of benefit provisions in most plans which would limit reimbursement. so typically purchasing a second policy adds little value at a cost. If you had the option being covered under one plan as an employee and another as a dependent, there might be value, depending on how the plans provide for coordination of benefits and the cost.
