| Should I take Medicare? Oct 31, 2007 I have been on long term disability for 2 years. I have private disability insurance through previous employer which is offset by Social Security Disability. I am also covered by my previous employer's health insurance policy. I am now eligible for Medicare as well. Would it be wise to take Medicare now or decline it since I have the private insurance. (medical, dental, vision, prescription drugs). I am contemplating keeping both. |

Response from Ms. Franzoi
If you don't sign up for Medicare when you are first eligible, you will be considerd a late enrollee when you do enroll. If you enroll late, you may have to pay higher premiums. You will pay 10% more for each 12 months that you could have been covered but were not enrolled. (This does not apply if you are covered as an active employee under an employer plan or as the spouse/dependent of an active employee.) | |||||||||
