Changing Life Insurance Companies
Aug 17, 2007

My employer is changing our life insurance carrier. I have worked for the company for yrs.. Now that I have h.i.v. / a.i.d.s, newly diagnoised. I am afraid I'll lose coverage as a result. Is there any information, options available, to not disclose the information to new carrier?

Response from Ms. Franzoi

Often when an employer changes life insurance carriers, coverage just transfer over. However, if your employer is a small employer, you might be asked to complete a medical questionnaire prior to getting the coverage. If this happens, you must answer the questions honestly. Failure to do so could be considered fraud and result in cancellation of coverage at a minimum.
